At the time the virus was inactive and my liver function was normal which the ideal state is for a chronic carrier. However, last year a series of blood tests showed my liver enzyme measured in ALT has steadily elevated to 92, which is two times the normal level. The specialist I was seeing believes my condition is at the borderline for treatment with anti-viral medicines such as the Lamivudine. The anti-viral medication will no doubt suppress the hepatitis B virus in my system and normalize my liver function. The down side, once started, I have to take the medication for life without stopping. If I miss a few doses here and there, the virus will mutate and develop resistance to the drug not to mention other side effects. I was stuck with a dilemma. Either I wait until my condition worsen to the point there it justify taking Lamivudine; or take the drug now and for the rest of my life while risk having the virus develop resistance. Either way my liver will have to sustain further damage. Western medicine does not seem to have a practical solution to deal with moderate hepatitis flare ups like mine.

As hope wanes, I started searching for other medical alternatives. In the past, I heard of rumours that Chinese medicine is very effective in treating hepatitis with natural herbs. I search through a number of advertisements of Chinese medicine practitioners in Ottawa. The only practitioner who claimed to have experience with treating hepatitis is Doctor Linda Leng from Heritage Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Centre in Kanata. Well, I have nothing to lose so I went to see Dr. Leng for the first time. In my first consultation with doctor Leng, I was completely astonished by the depth of her knowledge in hepatitis B infection. She offered more insights where my doctor didn’t. She opposed to taking anti-viral drugs or having a liver biopsy without other test results pointing to severe deterioration of the liver. Doctor Leng explained to me that Chinese medicine takes abnormal liver function very seriously and that the patient must receive herbal treatment immeditately to control the virus and normalize liver function. Dr. Leng was confident that she can lower my ALT back to normal level in three months with her herbal medicine. She also aked me to go get a blood test after one month of treatment and provide her with a copy of the result. The herbal medicine, apparently, is natural substances that stimulate my own immune system to fight and control the virus without the risk of developing drug resistance and I don’t need to take the medication for life. Dr. Leng’s knowledge and confidence gave me renewed hope.

For a period of two months I visited Dr. Leng weekly for consultation and to receive my herbal medication. I was much disciplined in taking my medication day after day. I waited two months to have a blood test to allow sufficient time for the treatment to have an effect. My blood test results came back and showed my liver function is back to normal with ALT down to 44 which is below the threshold of 46. I was thrilled with this result and I have Dr. Leng to thank. I’m amazed that my ALT flare up can be threated with natural substances that do not have long term side effects. With this first hand experience, I now firmly believe Dr. Leng’s Chinese Medicine practice can treat chronic hepatitis B infections.

On March 17 this year, I was involved in a car accident on the Queensway. My car was hit, crossed two lanes and slammed into the barrier, headon. I had shooting pains in my neck, ears, and throat. My glands were so swollen, I could see them just by looking in the mirror. Swallowing was very difficult. I was told by my doctor on three visits, that it was soft tissue damage which heals slowly. I was in pain everyday, and knew something was wrong, but there was nothing I could do. Finally, two weeks ago, a coworker recomended Dr. Linda Leng, and suggested acupuncture. Now, I will admit, the sight of a needle in a doctor’s hands terrifies me. I am deathly afraid of needles. However, I decided that a few needles in my neck or back could not be worse than the pain I was in all day, and night. I cannot find the words to express my experience with Dr. Leng. My pains had lessened dramatically after my first visit. I could no longer see my glands hanging, and I could swallow without difficulty, for the first time in almost eight months. Now, after my third session, I am pain free. I feel as though a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Dr. Leng is kind, patient, gentle and beautiful. A session with her is like visiting a friend. She made sure I was comfortable, and relaxed. It was like preparing for a nap instead of acupuncture. I was very fortunate to meet Dr. Leng, and I highly recommend her to anyone, who is in pain or discomfort. You will leave her office a new person, with the feeling of being treated by someone who genuinely cares. Thank you Dr. Leng.

I don’t know what I would have done with out your kindness, knowledge and expertise – probably still in pain!

I went to see Dr. Linda at the beginning of January as I had come down with red bumps all over my neck, chest, arms and stomach – a very severe case of ECZEMA. It had started to appear on my legs as well and was the very worst I had ever seen or experienced. It was very painful and very very itchy – I would wake up in the middle of the night and itch and itch and itch. I had not found any relief via traditional western medicine so I sought out Linda’s help, fully believing that she could help via natural means!

I was treated first with acupuncture and Chinese herbs but I found it very difficult to drink the herbs – I was not use to the very bitter taste! After a few changes to the herbal remedy, I was able to drink it down and that’s when I saw the greatest improvement. Within a week most of the redness was gone and within a couple it was all gone including the itching – you would not even know that it had been there if you hadn’t seen it in the first place. It was such a relief to have my life back!

I continue to work with Dr. Linda for her help with a lifetime of allergies and sinus problems. I am very optimistic that she will be able to help me with this as well!

This is truly an amazing surprise that we desperately hoped for but did not expect to happen before this coming August when we are about to take an IVF with an infertility center…In September 2006, the infertility center informed us that the only fast and best way for us to make a baby is through IVF. The main reason is that the percentage of my normal form sperm is only 4% which is far less than the average 14% that WHO considers as a prerequisite for a natural pregnancy…

In consideration of the risks and the strong physical demands on my wife for an IVF, we decided not to take IVF right away but to try some other means to have a natural pregnancy for the following year. If it had not worked out by the end of September 2007, we would take the IVF. With reference by another Chinese doctor, we visited Dr. Linda Leng who then assured us there was a good chance we could have for a natural pregnancy through a Chinese medical treatment. We therefore determined to take the treatment with Dr. Leng. Through the entire treatment from December 2006 to June 2007, Dr. Leng diagnosed the main causes of our problem and prescribed a series of Chinese medicine accordingly. According to what Dr. Leng explained, these prescriptions mainly could improve the quality of the sperm for the husband and maintain a regular period, nurture a pregnancy-friendly condition in the womb, and enhance the activity of the monthly released egg for the wife. All these treatments led to the good news stated in the beginning of this story. What excellent medical skills Dr. Leng has!

Cathy is now in a critical time in her pregnancy. Because there are so many uncertainties in the ten-month pregnancy journey, besides visiting hospitals, we still keep visiting Dr. Leng occasionally for medical treatment preventing miscarriage and seeking numerous advice for easing Cathy through her pregnancy. Dr. Leng acts not only as a professional doctor for medical treatment but also as a close friend or a kind of member to our family for offering many other non-medical helps hospitably. What a marvelous person Dr. Leng is! How lucky we were to meet Dr. Leng!

He had been taking a prescription anti-diuretic nasal spray for many months, but every time I tried to wean him off of it by lowering the dose the bedwetting resumed. Concerned about the drugs affects on his growing body, I sought an alternative solution. We went to see Linda and she began a treatment of acupressure and herbal remedy over the next month. I am happy to say that my son has gone from wetting the bed nearly every night to being completely dry in this time.

I am filled with gratitude to Linda Leng for her professionalism, skill and gentle manner. I would not hesitate to recommend her to any parent looking to help their child with this condition. Thank you Linda! .

Because of my training, I know that techniques such as acupuncture will never be scientifically proven in Western medicine because those who fund research do not have a commercial interest in it. I believe that there is a wealth to be uncovered in these ancient disciplines.

I recently came down with Bell\rquote s palsy and was treated with prednisone and acyclovir. A good friend, trained in Western medicine, strongly recommended that I try acupuncture and specifically referred me to Dr. Leng. She treated me using acupuncture, heat, and massage for seven session over a two-week period with excellent result. Dr. Leng\rquote s professional manner and skill impressed me, and I believe her work and equipment meet the highest standards of quality.

My personal physicians are amazed at the speed and extent of my recovery given the degree of my paralysis. I cannot prove it scientifically, but I believe that Dr. Leng\rquote s treatment played an important part in my full and speedy recovery. I enthusiastically recommend Dr. Xiaochun Leng as an acupuncturist and practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine.

The arthritis was diagnosed nine years ago, when I was in my early thirties. The number of flare-ups has been increasing in the last few years…I had been taking anti-inflammatory drugs since February along with physiotherapy twice a week Regardless of these treatments my pain was not decreasing and it was getting increasingly difficult to raise my arm or move without severe pain. Several months of this chronic pain was very debilitating and started to affect my outlook on life. I asked the physiotherapist to do acupuncture to try and help alleviate the pain. However, the experience was both stressful and painful

In desperation, and with my family physician\rquote s suggestion, I sought a Chinese trained acupuncturist and was fortunate enough to find Dr. Leng. After six acupuncture treatments over a three-week period, I was completely pain free in both my back and arm. Dr. Leng was both proficient and professional at performing her services. In addition, her kind mannerism helped allay my fears.

Friends who are familiar with how debilitating my pain has been are amazed at the change and how quickly it occurred. I am truly grateful for the pain relief provided by Dr. Leng. I generally lead a fairly active life that was truly disrupted for the last four months. Thanks to Dr. Leng, I have begun enjoying the things I like to do

Since 1996, my symptoms have been uncontrollable bowel movements, mostly bloody diarrhea, loss of weight, nausea and abdomen pain.

…Acupuncture combined with medicinal herbs helped in reducing all the symptoms. You have to know that with regular medicine this could have been a very long process or even not work at all. I am very amazed with the change and how quickly it occurred.

Dr. Leng has turned my life around. I\rquote m now in the process of stopping prescription drugs and I can go back to work more quickly and more energetic. Soon I will have beaten my bowel disease. I am very confident in recommending Dr. Linda Leng\rquote s professional services.
